If we were having coffee…

on April 26, 2016

Hi everyone,

It’s been so long since I’ve written an actual post that I thought this would be a fun way to make a comeback  🙂

So please grab your coffee and settle down with me for a chat…

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I spent the whole of last week sick in bed with a really bad flu, but I’m finally starting to feel better again. One good thing that came out of it is that I’m finally writing a blog post again after quite a long time…

I would tell you that I am so thrilled because for the first time since I published my book on Amazon sixteen months ago, I sold 43 books in 4 days during a 99c/99p Countdown deal. IMG_8234  My amazing sister, and virtual assistant, managed to get me on a few free promotion sites (Reading Deals, Read Freely, Booklover’s Heaven…) and it seems to have had the desired effect. This is HUGE for me because after the initial hype when my book first came out (hype made by friends and family of course) – and even then it was only 10 or so – I’ve never sold more than a few books a month. So 43 in a few days is amazing and I want to sing and shout it out over the rooftops! I’ve also had quite a bit of action on the page reads too which is also completely new to me and which warms my heart. THANK YOU to everyone who bought my book 🙂

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I met with my new illustrator last week, a Mauritian who is actually my daughter’s Art Teacher but who is ridiculously talented. His drawings are absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. He seemed pretty excited to work on a book cover, thing he hasn’t done before. As I have a very specific thing in mind it shouldn’t be too hard for him to draw it up. I’m so impatient to see his first draft.

Oh yes, and as we’re talking about my cover I would also add that I’ve FINALLY found my title… drum roll please…

…“Stuck with Me” it is! I’m so relieved as I thought that I would never find something suitable, but I really think this one works.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m currently trying to finish my re-re-re-re-re-re-re writing of “Stuck with Me” so that I can finally send it to beta readers for their comments.

IMG_8103I’m about halfway through but just read an article with a list of eight words ‘that need to be hunted down and deleted with extreme prejudice’ and I realised that I have a lot of 4 or 5 of these words in my manuscript! They include; suddenly, that, very, really and started. This means that I’ll have another re-rewriting to do on the first half!! Arrgghh! Rewriting and editing is the longest process ever! I’m so impatient to get my book out there so it’s becoming quite frustrating! But the rewards will be worth it in the end so I just have to keep at it.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that the weather is amazing in Mauritius today and that summer is finally over. I’m so happy not to be hot all the time anymore. At the moment, the days are warm and the evenings are cool – just love this season!                                                                     IMG_7960

If I were having coffee, I’d tell you that school broke up last Friday for our ten day Easter holiday break. In the French system, the Easter holidays, if you can call them that, always fall during the last week of April and first week of May no matter when Easter itself actually is!! Hmmm… no comment. Anyway, I’m soooo happy to have ten days off from getting up early, preparing the kids lunch boxes and doing the school run.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I watched Vampire Diaries today and that although Season 7 is still good and keeps me watching, I can’t help missing the light-heartedness of the prior seasons. It’s all a bit heavy this year and not much happiness and laughter in there at all. I can’t imagine what they will come up with for Season 8 as they’ve pretty much done it all.

Damon’s still as gorgeous as ever though 🙂

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have to go now because I have to go to the supermarket to stock up on some food. I’m a twice-a-day supermarket goer in normal times and I haven’t been once this week so you can imagine what my fridge and kitchen cupboards look like as I write! Yep! Pretty empty, and the kids are not happy!

It was great spending some time with you. Have a lovely week and see you again soon!

A bientôt 🙂

P.S. I first saw the Coffee posts on Suzie Speaks’ blog – check out her awesome blog here! https://suzie81speaks.com/ But she says that initially the Coffee posts was the brainchild of the Part Time Monster which you can check out here! https://parttimemonster.com

  1. I love the “If we were having coffee…” concept (and I was actually sipping my morning coffee while reading this). All the best with your revisions of STUCK WITH ME. Very exciting about getting a cover soon- that always makes it feel so real.

    • THanks so much Mary! I also love the concept which I saw one day on Suzie Speaks blog. It makes it feel so conversational and even when I’m writing I feel as if I’m talking to you all. Thanks for your encouragement for Stuck with Me – I need it 🙂 It’s the hardest part and just seems never ending. Anyway, thanks for dropping by 🙂

Congrats on the boost in sales.

I don’t drink coffee, but I’ll imagine we were having hot chocolate 🙂

    • Thanks so much Sandie. Must say it was a pretty awesome moment and I keep going back to Amazon kdp just to make sure I didn’t dream it all 🙂 And don’t worry, hot chocolate works just as well as coffee 🙂 Thanks for dropping by.

  3. I love the format of “…if we were having coffee…” and I think that will certainly catch on as a very useful and friendly way of connecting with others. It felt like we were sitting down to have coffee and chat and I’m so grateful for the time spent with you getting caught up on your life and your thoughts. Congratulations on the sale of 43 books in 4 days! And congratulations on the progress for your upcoming book. That’s fabulous!

  4. I wish we were having coffee and specifically in Mauritius!! Congrats on your successful book promotion and on finding a title for your new book! And, most importantly, getting over the nasty flu. Being sick is no fun!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you how envious I am of your organizational skills. I need to get back in the groove. This week my excuses are that my darling 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter has kept me busy doing fun things together while her mommy gets some rooms painted. Then we had a tree blown down in last night’s storm, and I spent whatever spare time I had talking with tree companies about removal. Now, I have to hop over to my blog and get my post ready for the blog hop. (Ssssh, don’t tell Julie I’m behind again!)

  7. I love this post, it’s so warm and homey, as if you are sitting right across from me and, every so often, lean over and lower you voice and say something like, “Damon’s still gorgeous as ever.” So nice to read! P.S. Congrats on the book sales.

    • Thanks so much 🙂 So glad you enjoyed the post. I got the same feeling when I read Suzie Speaks ‘If we were having coffee’ post and that’s what made me want to do it too. Come over to Mauritius for a coffee someday 🙂
